*Vintage Jubilee Mug*

Well it is the Diamond Jubliee weekend this weekend but today I thought I would share with you my Silver Jubilee mug!

I have had this mug since I was very little, 2 in fact!
When it was the Silver Jubilee in 1977 my mum bought my sisters & I one of these commemorative mugs each to keep.
I always remember growing up & knowing I had it & my Mum keeping it safe for me for when I was grown up ~ but it was mine, a special something for when I was older that I could put in my own home. I always remember thinking of it as some sort of treasure even though I didn't really realise what the Silver Jubilee was all about at the time!

I have kept it & treasured it all these years though.
I got it out a couple of weeks ago & it has been sitting on the dresser in the dining room.
I wish my Mum was here to see it sitting proudly in my home as we celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.
10 years ago when it was the Golden Jubilee we went to see the Queen when she visited the town!
My Mum was such a lover of The Royal Family as am I!
When I was little I used to collect pictures of The Royal Family & stick them in scrap books & collect every book I could find on them!!!
Well it was the 80's hey day of The Royal Family when they were in every paper & magazine!
Funny thing was, was that my Mum had done exactly the same thing when she was little & I hadn't known until after I started.
One of my sisters told me a funny tale the other week, something that she remembers from the Silver Jubilee.
She is 10 years older than me so can remember it much more than I can.
She remembers that my Mum couldn't find white crepe paper anywhere & wanted some to dress the dining room window with for the celebration (I presume they didn't have silver crepe paper then!!!) my Mum didn't let this stop her though & decorated the window with good old toilet paper!!!
'Make Do' mentality at it's best!!!
