I've been keeping a tiny secret ~ I'm going to be a Great Aunt ~ and that doesn't mean being a really cool and great Aunt, I mean I'm actually going to be a Great Aunt!
One of my neices is having a baby!
I have two older sisters that are quite a bit older than me and so I first became an Aunty when I was only 8 years old and I have 4 neices altogether.
But how weird and fab is it that I am going to be a great aunt at the tender age of 34 (well as I will be when it arrives!)
My lovely neice Hannah as we have just found out today is expecting a baby boy ~ he is expected to arrive at the end of January. *yay*
Ooohhh goodness it really doesn't seem too minutes since she was tiny and I used to call her 'my little pud' as she was just sooo adorably cute and as lovely as pudding.
A Great Aunt, how strange ~ does this mean I have to start starching things and wearing lots of lace, drinking tiny glasses of sherry, taking tea on the lawn & telling people what I really think of them???
Hmmm, anyhoo all I know is that I just can't wait to be a Great Aunt & to meet this little chap who is going to make me feel so old! *giggle*

Wow 5 months along! How exciting! Flippin heck that does sound old though 'great aunt' (sorry!). Makes me think of old movies and books that have that smell...you know what I mean?! Plus its funny that you mention it - someone left a comment on my post 'Clued Up' and called you Vintage Alison....maybe she knew!!!! :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your news.. looks like we're both going to be swapping shopping for girlie pink in favour of baby blue!
ReplyDeleteI can understand what you mean about feeling old being a great aunt, when my brother & SIL announced their future arrival my aunts were overjoyed until i pointed out this makes them great aunts... even more amazing is my nan being a great nan and my great aunt being a great great aunt!!

Congrats! You will be a blimmin marvelous Great Aunt, very cool indeed! Definitely a great excuse to drink a little too much as well, everyone needs an Auntie who is known for getting tipsy at family get togethers!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and your neice! Somedays I miss having babies around. My youngest is 5 now but my oldest is nearly 18 so most days I think: I've been at it for a long time and there's still a long way to go =) Blessings... Polly
ReplyDeleteHi Alison,
ReplyDeleteIt means that you get the best bits ~ the cuddles ~ and not the disturbed nights!

I really enjoyed this post! I became an "Aunt" when I was two years old! My niece will turn 60 tomorrow and I remember all the wonderful times we've had over the years...more like sisters really.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Great Auntie, and well done to your niece honey.
